How to plan a monthly backlink campaign without losing the brief

A workable sequence for target pages, content angles, delivery batches and review.

Choose one business objective

Begin with what the business needs visitors to understand or do. A new service launch, a useful guide and an agency client campaign need different content. Write a short objective before choosing quantity. That objective helps you decide whether a proposed destination page and article topic belong in the same campaign.

Audit the pages you want to promote

Open every target URL. Check its offer, mobile layout, loading behaviour and next step. If a page is outdated or the contact form does not work, more promotion will not fix that problem. Confirm that you can measure relevant visits before the campaign starts.

Agree the counting rules

Define a placement, distinguish publishing URLs from unique domains and separate any complimentary allocation. Clarify whether the package includes articles, posts or other approved content formats. Record the number of target URLs and the review process. Larger volume should not mean less clarity.

Break the month into reviewable batches

Use an agreed schedule so the client can check early work before the final delivery. Review topic fit, destinations and reporting fields first. If an early batch exposes a repeated mistake, correct it before producing the rest. The schedule should follow the approved scope rather than a claim that search engines require an exact daily link count.

Keep measurement honest

Track delivered placements, broken or missing items and referral outcomes separately. Search Console can help you observe search performance, but a ranking change alone does not prove causation. Other content changes, competitors and search-system updates can affect the same period. Record what changed so your review stays useful.

Decide what the next month needs

Renew because the next brief has a useful purpose. Keep the pages and content angles that fit the audience, revisit weak destinations and remove work that cannot be justified. A monthly package should support a repeatable review process rather than an automatic increase in quantity.
